SUMMARY:CEO Peer Network Support – stand-out Strategies
DESCRIPTION:An interactive session for non-profits to share their own experiences and solutions to making their organisation stand out.\n\n\nHave you ever wondered why other organisations seem to be doing better than yours? Getting more funding\, more volunteers\, more supporters and even more publicity? \nCould it be because they know how to build strong\, emotional connections with the people who matter? Could it be because they understand better\, how people want to feel when they work with them? \nThe majority of our decisions are made on emotions. When you understand how other people want to feel\, you’ll be able to speak their language. This will help you to build much stronger\, more persuasive relationships with them. This will help you to raise the funding you need\, as well as find the volunteers\, supporters and publicity that you want. \n10 years ago\, Chantal Cornelius from Appletree Marketing\, who will lead this session\, started looking at what makes organisations stand out more than others. She did lots of research and even wrote a book about it! In this online session\, she’ll show you a simple way to understand how people want to feel\, that will allow you to build stronger emotional relationships with key contacts. \nChantal regularly leads workshops and online training sessions for CVS Brent. Imagination how much she can help your organisation to stand out. This is an event that you don’t want to miss. \n \nThis is an online event. An online meeting link should be provided upon registering for the event. If you are having issues with the link or have not received it\, please email ibrahim.ansari@cvsbrent.org.uk

SUMMARY:Brent Biennial 2025: AIR Ritual – Print\, Refusal\, & the Radical Imagination
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a panel about the leakier\, more unruly side of publishing\, from speculative fiction and radical print cultures to errant poetry\n\n\nAbout the event \nPrint has always leaked beyond control: smuggled\, handmade\, passed from hand to hand. This panel brings together R. T. Samuel (The Blaft Book of Anti-Caste SF)\, Sold Out Publishing\, and The Mollusc Dimension (The Weird & Wonderful Surviveries of Squid Horse) to explore how radical print cultures reshape collective imagination. \nFrom small presses to speculative fiction\, they’ll discuss how publishing can act as a form of refusal\, breaking with the mainstream and opening up new\, unruly worlds on paper and beyond. \nChaired by Arsalan Isa. \n** \nThis event will take place in the Garden Room\, University of Westminster Harrow Campus. \nThe event is part of Print Gully Zine Fair\, which is taking place in The Forum at University of Westminster Harrow Campus\, between 10am – 6pm on 24 October. Sign up for tickets here! \nAbout the panellists \nBakhtawer Haider (Sold Out Publishing)Creative Director\, Art Director\, Publisher.Bakhtawer’s work is rooted in decolonial theory and the expansion of visual cultures within branding. She co-founded Plan B and Sold Out Publishing while studying her MA at the Royal College of Art\, and co-authored Not a Reference Yet. \nBetty BrunfautCreative Director\, Publisher.Betty’s practice revolves around collaboration\, inclusive pedagogy\, and environmental issues. She co-founded Plan B and Sold Out Publishing while studying her MA at the Royal College of Art\, and co-authored Not a Reference Yet. \nR T SamuelR T Samuel is an editor\, researcher and independent cultural producer working between London and New Delhi. He commissioned and co-edited ‘The Blaft Book of Anti-Caste SF‘\, which was helmed by a viral fundraiser that made it the 2nd most successful Indian publishing campaign in Kickstarter history. The book involved working with close to 30 authors\, translators and artists for close to two years\, and features stories from more than six different languages and diverse mediums. A lapsed investigative and culture journalist\, he has an MSc in Anthropology and Professional Practice from UCL and is always happy to talk about 80s SFF\, public radio\, futures thinking\, liberation theology and Indian hip-hop. \nThe Mollusc DimensionThe Mollusc Dimension (he/him) is a neurodivergent\, multidisciplinary artist whose colourful graphic memoir “The Weird & Wonderful Surviveries of Squid Horse” explores mental health\, grief and growth from the perspective of a British-Chinese\, trans-masculine\, non binary creative. It was shortlisted by The Selfies Book Awards for non-fiction and the audio-described version is being edited. TMD has made over 20 zines and received 2 project grants from Arts Council England. TMD’s art / poetry has been published or is forthcoming in Aghh! Zine\, Covert\, Ink Sweat & Tears\, The Page Gallery\, Present Tense Zine\, Queer Out Here and others. His music video “Asians Have Feelings Too” received “The Favourite” award from Trans Pride Brighton Film Festival in 2022 and screened in the UK\, Hong Kong\, Austria and the US. He’s performed live original songs in London\, Brighton and Bristol and composed music for short DIY films and animations. \nArsalan IsaArsalan Isa is a writer and artist working at the intersections of publishing\, performance\, zine- making\, and comics. In 2022\, he introduced the term “Dissociative Realism” to describe an approach to exploring art objects and assemblage. Through mixed media\, he delves into the making of agency\, mapping biopolitics\, pop culture\, and the collective unconscious. His publications include zines on air travel\, Victorian literature\, plant nurseries\, hands\, lobsters\, cling film\, circumcision clinics\, demo discs\, mixtapes\, migrant barges\, wrestling\, and ballet. \nPrint Gully is a frenetic zine fair where nothing goes as planned. It takes the energy of international shopping plazas and the utility of makeshift printing and turns them into what Homi Bhabha calls a third space\, where different publishing worlds crisscross and hybridise. \nBrent Biennial 2025: AIR Ritual \nEach breath is a new possibility of life. Inhalation and exhalation as cycles of existence. Air is also the catalytic substance of ignition; it represents the power of utterance; declaration\, song\, whistles\, chants\, spells\, of mobilising ideas and knowledge\, people and animals. The intangible\, invisible force that creates changes in culture\, education\, legal systems\, religion and ideologies. \nAIR Ritual forms part of the programme for Brent Biennial 2025. Titled “Bones\, stones\, and calling the four elements”\, it seeks to invoke a communal spirit of gathering and imagining. Between June to October 2025 four ‘rituals’\, WATER (22 June)\, EARTH (24 July – 1 August) FIRE (26 September – 12 October) and AIR (17 -24 October) will unfold at four Brent sites – a public reservoir\, a park\, an old medical facility and a university campus. Located in the north and south of the borough — Harrow\, Wembley and Kilburn — the ‘rituals’ will feature artists presenting workshops\, talks\, performance and exhibition.

David and his fellow panelists (TBC) will look at the history of gaming and resistance\, covering\, amongst others\, the work of Avery Alder\, Jay Dragon\, Soul Muppet and Zedeck Siew. \nThis event will take place in the Garden Room\, Harrow Campus\, Westminster University (Northwick Park Roundabout Harrow HA1 3TP) \n\n\nAbout the artist \nDavid Blandy (he/him) is an artist examining global structures of control and networks of resistance\, in areas as diverse as ecology\, history\, science and arenas of play. He makes videos\, games\, sound and ephemera\, deconstructing forms to put them back together again. \nBlandy searches for meaning in cultural life\, through an expanded form of auto-anthropology\, sifting through multiple forms of archive\, from historic texts to academic archives\, archaeology and ecological theory\, twitch streams and film archives\, weaving poetic works that explore the complexities of the contemporary subject. Perhaps it’s hubris\, but he wants to build complex stories that sketch out a future of interdependence\, through visual poetry and immersive play. \nBlandy is represented by Seventeen Gallery\, London. His films are distributed by LUX\, London. \n \n\n\nBrent Biennial 2025: AIR Ritual \nEach breath is a new possibility of life.

SUMMARY:Brent Biennial: AIR Ritual – Print Gully Zine Fair
DESCRIPTION:Print Gully is a frenetic zine fair where nothing goes as planned…\n\n\nPrint Gully is a frenetic zine fair where nothing goes as planned. It takes the energy of international shopping plazas and the utility of makeshift printing and turns them into what Homi Bhabha calls a third space\, where different publishing worlds crisscross and hybridise. \nFollowing Sara Ahmed\, we consider how bodies and things become oriented towards certain stories\, audiences and spaces. Print Gully is a reorientation of Harrow Campus’s reception area\, transforming an institutional space into a site for collective publishing and marginalia\, or how the ‘field study’ comes to the researcher. \nIn partnership with Brent Biennial and the University of Westminster\, Print Gully will take place on 24 October\, 11 am to 6 pm\, in The Forum at UW’s Harrow Campus. The zine fair is a collaboration with the University of Westminster Library. \nWe invite makers to submit a single zine to Westminster’s inaugural zine collection. Please get in touch @print.gully! \nDefinition: “Gully” (from Hindi/Urdu: गली / گلی) means alleyway or side street. It’s often linked to grassroots\, street-level culture like gully rap or gully cricket\, and evokes a raw\, local energy. \nAbout some of the makers: \nThe zine fair gathers a wide range of makers spanning publishing collectives\, independent artists\, illustrators\, writers\, and experimental storytellers. From Less Than 500 Press and Silly Dogs Brunch Club\, who celebrate DIY publishing and small press culture\, to Print Collective and Beware! The Zine\, who merge printmaking and community media\, the event showcases the diversity of contemporary self-publishing. Artists like Tania Ali\, Ahlam Ahmadi\, Studio by Wings\, and Pam Kaur Gibbons use zines as tools for cultural reclamation\, identity\, and care\, while Zine Mela extends this ethos through a South Asian diasporic lens. Visual makers such as Jess Dempsey\, Stefan Alexander\, and Rosa Monsoon blend collage\, ceramics\, and illustration to explore the poetic\, the playful\, and the intimate. Liyaan Khoso\, Shangomola Edunjobi\, and Yarli Allison bring multidisciplinary and narrative-driven practices rooted in performance\, comics\, and digital art\, while Blaft Publications and David Blandy expand zine culture into realms of global pulp\, speculative fiction\, and tabletop storytelling. From whimsical everyday reflections by Gazette Girlie to politically resonant practices by Becky Lyon and Lucia Morciano\, the fair celebrates zine-making as both an art form and a mode of resistance\, creating a site where personal stories\, radical publishing\, and collective imagination meet. \n \nAbout the practices: \nAcross the fair\, makers approach publishing as an open and experimental practice that values process as much as outcome. Their work spans risograph printing\, hand-binding\, collage\, ceramics-based storytelling\, digital zines\, community radio extensions\, and small-press reissues. Some use zines as tools for education\, cultural preservation\, or political reflection\, while others focus on play\, humour\, and personal narrative. The approaches range from visual poetry and speculative fiction to queer world-building\, illustration\, and tactile making. Many see zine-making as a form of social practice that shares knowledge\, builds community\, and creates alternative forms of publishing beyond commercial or institutional systems. \n \nAbout the artist \nARSALAN ISA is a writer and artist working at the intersections of publishing\, performance\, zine- making\, and comics. SUMMARY:Brent Biennial 2025: AIR Ritual – Our Place\, No Place
DESCRIPTION:Join artist David Blandy to co-create a shared world through a tabletop role-playing game\n\n\nAbout the event \nIn this session\, we will play Our Place\, No Place\, a game made in collaboration with Jo Lindsey Walton\, we imagine the complexities of a better future together. Our Place\, No Place is a tabletop role-playing game where we create a shared world\, drawing a map and defining its landscapes\, then step into the lives of characters who inhabit it. As we navigate a year in this imagined space\, unexpected local events shape our stories and a community emerges through play. Our space\, 200 years in the future\, is no longer an abstract concept\, but an imaginatively lived reality. The work insists that we will survive these traumas\, but asks what will life then be like\, in this different\, sustainable\, more collaborative world? No prior experience of gaming is necessary to play. \nThis event will take place in the Garden Room\, Harrow Campus\, Westminster University (Northwick Park Roundabout Harrow HA1 3TP) \nAbout the artist \nDavid Blandy (he/him) is an artist examining global structures of control and networks of resistance\, in areas as diverse as ecology\, history\, science and arenas of play. SUMMARY:Brent Biennial 2025: AIR Ritual - Living Knowledge
DESCRIPTION:Join artists Quek Jia Qi and Aaron Lim to create\, experiment and share your knowledge with the mobile library\n\n\nLiving Knowledge: Exploring Community-Led Ways of Knowing\, Learning\, and Being \nCan community-led knowledge exchange inspire new ways of knowing\, learning and being? \nDrawing on her experiences in Singapore and the UK\, artist and educator Quek Jia Qi shares her artistic and pedagogical practice that reimagines how\, where\, and with whom we learn. In this participatory workshop\, participants are invited to explore not only their unique stories\, skills\, knowledge\, and perspectives\, but also the ways these can intersect and resonate with others. In collaboration with spatial designer Aaron Lim\, the activated installation supports movement\, experimentation\, and exchange\, enhancing opportunities for shared discovery. \nParticipants will take part in a process of experimentation\, sharing\, and prototyping\, contributing their creation to the mobile library. Each contribution becomes part of the evolving installation that grows and shifts as ideas\, stories\, and practices accumulate. The ongoing creation celebrates creativity\, collaboration\, and cross-cultural learning\, highlighting the diverse ways knowledge can be expressed\, embodied\, and circulated. Participants become co-creators in a dynamic exploration of learning and knowledge exchange. The workshop offers a space to reflect on how collective practices can shape new ways of thinking\, learning\, and being together\, while inspiring new models of participation and collaboration within and beyond our learning communities. \nThis event will take place in Blue Shed\, Harrow Campus\, University Of Westminster\, Watford Rd\, Northwick Park Roundabout\, Harrow HA1 3TP. \n \n\n\nAbout the artists \nA Mobile Library for Collective Knowledge is created by artist Quek Jia Qi in collaboration with spatial designer Aaron Lim. \nQuek Jia Qi is an artist and educator whose socially engaged practice bridges community and learning through storytelling. Working at the intersection of art and pedagogy\, she collaborates with people across disciplines and walks of life. Her work unfolds through site-specific installations\, public programmes\, and performances that create space for connection and dialogue—inviting new ways of learning\, relating\, and being together. \nA recipient of the Social Art Award in 2017\, Jia Qi has exhibited her work internationally across the US\, UK\, Europe\, and Asia\, including at the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) Singapore\, Raven Row and 5th Base Gallery in London\, Whiteconcepts Gallery in Berlin\, Czong Institute for Contemporary Art (CICA) Museum in South Korea\, and Framer Framed in Amsterdam\, Netherlands. Her work has also been presented at public festivals such as the Singapore Night Festival and Singapore Archifest\, and in public spaces across Singapore\, London\, and New York. Grounded in reciprocity\, care\, and curiosity\, her practice explores how art can be offered as a gift—expanding modes of exchange and nurturing meaningful relationships. \nAaron Lim is a spatial designer whose practice embraces cross-disciplinary and collaborative modes of making. He is interested in developing participatory methodologies that foster spatial agency and support the collective shaping of spaces and ideas. Centered around playfulness\, his approach invites participants to engage with his work through childlike wonder and curiosity\, encouraging reflection on their routines through the subversion of everyday objects and rituals. \nHis works have been featured across a wide range of public spaces and festivals\, including Noise Singapore\, Singapore Art Week\, Singapore Night Festival\, Singapore Heritage Festival\, Park(ing) Day and the London Festival of Architecture. He has also designed sets and exhibition spaces for the National Gallery Singapore\, National Library Singapore\, Singapore Coffee Festival and Singapore Design Week. \n \n\n\nBrent Biennial 2025: AIR Ritual \nEach breath is a new possibility of life.

SUMMARY:Wembley Library Coffee Morning: Wartime letters from Wembley's Preston Park
DESCRIPTION:Get ready to dive into the heartfelt wartime stories from Wembley’s Preston Park – a unique experience you won’t want to miss!\n\n\nMuriel had lived on the Preston Park estate in the 1930s\, and stayed in touch with several neighbours there after she moved away. She kept the letters which she received from her friends Nancie and Doris during the Second World War\, and these were donated to Wembley History Society in 2020. \nJoin Philip Grant\, from the history society\, and “Nancie” and “Doris”\, to hear first hand accounts from local housewives of what it was like living in Wembley during the war\, including news of their families\, the local primary school their children went to (and gossip about other residents they all knew!)\, as well as the effects of air raids and rationing on their daily lives. There will also be a chance to share your views and experiences about how their lives compared to ours today. \nThis event is part of the nationwide project Our Freedom Then and Now\, exploring the legacy of VE Day and VJ Day. In Brent this takes the form of a dynamic community programme jointly delivered by Brent Libraries\, Culture and Heritage and the Jason Roberts Foundation.
