SUMMARY:Kilburn Coffee Morning: The Butterflies of London
DESCRIPTION:Join Leslie Williams\, of the London Natural History Society for a discussion about his book 'The Butterflies of London'\n\n\nButterflies add to the interest of our spring and summers. Even in London. But like many beneficial insects they are under pressure from changing environments. So how have butterflies fared in London? \n‘The Butterflies of London’ describes the butterflies that can be seen locally here in London. The maps show how the distribution of butterflies has changed in London since the first mapped survey of the early 1980s. \nThere have been large changes. A few species have been lost from London. But the surprise is that large areas of London have gained butterflies that were previously absent. This book is also about where to see butterflies and how to encourage them in our neighbourhoods.

SUMMARY:Adolescence\, Algorithms and the Search for Coherence
DESCRIPTION:Westminster School and Brent Centre for Young People welcome you to join us for an insightful seminar by Professor Alessandra Lemma.\n\n\nFrom Scrolling Through to Working Through: Adolescence\, Algorithms and the Search for Coherence \nDigital technologies now play a formative role in adolescent development\, shaping the conditions under which identity and self-experience unfold. Within this altered landscape\, some young people increasingly turn to online self-diagnosis and health-tracking practices as ways of stabilising a fragile sense of self. Each piece of data is an echo that promises self-knowledge but arrives refracted through algorithmic glass. \nUsing psychoanalytic concepts\, this paper explores the interrelated dynamics that characterise adolescent engagement with these digital practices\, examining the specific textures of technologically mediated experience. \nDrawing on clinical material\, Professor Lemma argues that adolescents’ reliance on digital tools exemplifies a fragile psychotechnical becoming\, exposing how recognition and selfhood are now negotiated through machinic mirrors that both promise control but threaten to erode the essential work of representation. \n \nWe want this seminar to be accessible and inclusive\, so please reach out if the price point is unaffordable for you.

She is an entrepreneur\, consultant\, executive coach\, and TEDx speaker\, and was awarded a CBE in 2020 for services to Africans in the UK and in Africa. \nTell Me About It (2026) \nTrainee relationship counsellor Delilah Braithwaite is better at breaking couples up than bringing them together. But after one break-up too many\, she’s suspended and ordered to get to grips with her own baggage if she hopes to get her job back. \nDesperate to prove she’s not the problem\, Delilah accepts a challenge from her sister: track down five exes and make amends for dumping them all with no good reason. But when she runs into Noah – the fiancé she left at the altar – her plans take a complicated turn. \nWhile Delilah seeks redemption\, her own therapy sessions begin to unearth hidden secrets and painful truths she’s long avoided. But only when she’s forced to confront the trauma of her past does she begin to understand that love means a whole lot more than just saying sorry. \nA warm and wise story of healing for 2026\, for fans of Monica Heisey\, Holly Bourne and Candice Carty-Williams.

SUMMARY:Kilburn Coffee Morning : 'Flourish: Queer Ecology in the Garden'
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Kilburn Coffee Morning to explore the fascinating connection between queer identity and ecological sustainability in the garden!\n\n\nThis Pride Month workshop explores gender fluidity across the natural world — from plants that change sex to worms\, snails\, and other animals that blur biological binaries. \nThrough a short illustrated talk\, light discussion\, and a simple hands-on gardening activity\, we’ll reflect on how ecology challenges fixed ideas of gender and what it can teach us about diversity\, adaptability\, and flourishing beyond neat categories. (No gardening experience needed.) \nPart of the The National Year of Reading 2026 which is a UK-wide campaign designed to inspire more people to make reading a regular part of their lives.

SUMMARY:Weavers of Grass: An Evening of Jazz\, Storytelling\, and Poetry
DESCRIPTION:Join us at Kilburn Library for an enchanting fusion of jazz\, storytelling\, and poetry with the talented Weavers of Grass!\n\n\nWhat made Hebridean crofter Angus MacPhee weave an iconic wardrobe of grass\, flowers and leaves in the woods of Craig Dunnain\, the psychiatric hospital where he was incarcerated for fifty years? \nNobody really knows — but award winning poet Chrys Salt MBE and internationally regarded saxophonist Richard Ingham explore and reimagine this iconic and little known story using poetry\, music\, images and narrative to conjure a life lived on the margins\, shaped by elective silence\, ancient craft and the elemental pull of the land. \nPart of the The National Year of Reading 2026 which is a UK-wide campaign designed to inspire more people to make reading a regular part of their lives.
