DESCRIPTION:Join us in Brent to celebrate Disabled People’s Empowerment Month 2026—where inclusion makes work better!\n\n\nJoin Us for Disabled People’s Empowerment Month 2026!\nDisabled People’s Empowerment Month is an opportunity to celebrate the achievements\, contributions and lived experiences of disabled people\, while promoting inclusion\, accessibility and equality across our communities. \nJoin us for Brent Works Better With Us\, a free community event bringing together disabled residents\, local organisations\, service providers\, community groups and allies from across Brent in the Grand Hall of Brent Civic Centre! \nThe event includes a Resource Fair from 12–4pm\, with informational stalls from: \n\nAshford Place\nBrent Mencap\nThe Shaw Trust\nAsian People’s Disability Alliance\nCitizens Advice Bureau\nAutism Central / Anna Freud\nREED in Partnership\nHarrow Association of Disabled People\nGMB\nUnison\nProtection Approaches\nBrent Council Services: Brent Sensory Team; Brent Health Matters; Early Years Team; Family Wellbeing Centres; Brent Start; Brent SEND Information\, Advice and Support Service; IT Accessibility Services\n\nStallholders will showcase the services\, support\, opportunities and activities available to disabled people\, their families and carers. \nThe main event will take place from 2pm–4pm\, celebrating the contributions of disabled people and highlighting the importance of creating a more inclusive and accessible Brent for everyone. \nOur agenda features: \n\nMCing and comedy from Suzi Payton\, neurodivergent stand-up comedian\, with co-hosting from members of Brent Mencap’s Disability Rights and Politics Group\nPresentation from Iain MacLeod\, DEI Consultant at Reed: You’re Interviewing Them Too: Finding Inclusive Employers and Advocating for Yourself\nChoir performance from The Songs of Joy Dementia Choir \nWheelchair dance performance from Asian People’s Disability Alliance Wheelchair Dance Group\nPoetry and songs from Brent Mencap Members\n\nAttendees will be able to enjoy complimentary food and refreshments throughout the afternoon. \nWhether you are disabled or non-disabled\, a carer\, a professional\, or just want to gain more awareness of the services available\, we invite you to join us as we celebrate Disabled People’s Empowerment Month and continue working together to make Brent a borough where everyone can participate\, contribute and thrive. DESCRIPTION:Celebrate Black excellence and resilience at our event\, Standing Firm in Power and Pride\, this Black History Month!\n\n\nStanding Firm in Power and Pride this Black History Month \nJoin us at the Grand Hall\, Brent Civic Centre for an evening of celebration\, strength\, and unity during Black History Month. Together we’ll honour Black history\, culture\, and achievements through inspiring music\, dance\, theatre\, and powerful discussion. \nTo set the tone\, Phoenix Rising will welcome guests with the uplifting sounds of steel pan. \nThe evening will open with a warm welcome from TV presenter and host Aaron Bridgeman\, followed by an address from the Deputy Leader of Brent Council\, Councillor Mili Patel. We will then hear the story of how Black History Month UK began\, told by its founder\, journalist and activist Akyaaba Addai-Sebo\, in conversation with broadcaster Rosemary Laryea. \nPerformances will include a musical journey through the history of Black music from Darae Palmer\, an expressive dance showcase by the young talents of Hillside Performing Arts\, and a powerful theatre piece on Malcolm X\, coordinated by cultural producer and advocate Rachel Victor-Sampson. \nAt the heart of the evening\, a panel discussion on the theme of “Power” will bring together influential voices including Dawn Butler MP for Brent East and entrepreneur and community leader Anita Whittaker\, alongside educators and local leaders. \nThe event will close with reflections from our host\, leaving space for connection\, celebration\, and pride. Engage in dynamic discussions\, witness powerful artistic performances\, and celebrate the strength and diversity of Black communities! \nFeatured Speakers and Performers: \n\nPatricia Wharton (Blaze): Radio Presenter from The Let’s Talk Show\, a campaigner and advocate for race equality and inclusion\, and our host for the evening. Blaze will also run an African fashion catwalk as part of the event.\nCllr Farah: Cabinet Member for Public Safety and Partnerships will give a speech.\nBlack Women in Sport:\n\n\nJJ Roble: Somali-born British football referee\, breaking barriers in sport.\nConnie Henry MBE: Commonwealth Games bronze medallist in triple jump.\nCeleste Stevens: A leader at Reading Football Club\, championing diversity.\nLorna Falconer: Advocate for the Jason Roberts Foundation\, with a career spanning key roles in football clubs.\n\n\nEphraim Lisk (Dr Abu): Social media sensation with over 1.7 million TikTok followers\, bringing fresh perspectives and creativity.\nKwaku and Music4Causes Ft Kimba: Local music performers and historians offering an edu-tainment experience through spoken word and music.\n\nWhy Attend? \nTogether\, we will amplify Black voices\, celebrate incredible achievements\, and take steps toward building a more inclusive and equitable society.
