Community Champions

This project aims to develop a better understanding of local cancer services ensuring they are appropriate and relevant to the diverse communities they serve.  Early, appropriate health services will help to build trust, improve treatments and improve life chances of residents.

 

What is it?

This project has been set up to increase cancer awareness and take up of screening programmes amongst minority communities.

Volunteering Opportunity

Community Champions are at the heart of this project of change.  As a Community Champion you will:

  • Gain the training and skills to engage with and reach out to the borough’s diverse communities.
  • Build the awareness, confidence and trust of local people so they are better informed about cancer.
  • Encourage communities to take early action, e.g. participating in cancer screening programmes.
  • Connect with local cancer services enabling residents to have better access and experiences of cancer care and support.
